Our Story

Odyssey Ed was founded by my husband Daniel, and me, Dakota.

I absolutely love watching students grow and find their own interests, and that is our goal here at Odyssey Ed. We want every student to feel the same passion that we do for learning. I believe that learning a subject is much more than textbooks and worksheets - while those certainly help, learning should also be experiential and textured. Oftentimes, I find that a student becomes disengaged or unmotivated to work simply because they cannot connect with the material. I certainly was the same way in school. So, I aspire to make each tutoring session fun and connect with the student.

.Not only do I want to share my love of learning, but I also want to create an environment where  I can take the time to get to know the student - their needs, wants, capabilities. Learning is fun!

I look forward to working with you.

About Me.

I started at Central Washington University, obtaining my degree in professional and creative writing, with a minor in philosophy. I learned how to polish essays, write stories, craft business emails, proposals, and resumes, among numerous other concepts. From there, I pursued my certificate in teaching English as a foreign language at the International TEFL Academy. I used this certificate to work at a tutoring center with children from all over the world as well as ran an online class for students in Turkey. Now, I am enrolled in school to earn my Masters in Teaching, with a focus on K-12 education in a public school and teaching English as a second language. This is a dual program which also gives me the training and education necessary to receive my teaching certificate for public schools. Although my BA was focused on writing, I also have experience teaching math up to 8th grade and history, as well as some physical science.
